USMMA Sailing Foundation Professional Development Conference Grants For For Licensed Captains, Chief Mates, Engineers

The USMMA Sailing Foundation, a not for profit organization whose mission is to further maritime education and training is pleased to partner with Tall Ships America to sponsor the attendance of six maritime professionals for the 2014 Tall Ships America 41st Annual Conference on Sail Training and Tall Ships.  Qualified applicants (detailed criteria below) will be individuals who have demonstrated a commitment to delivering maritime education, personal professional development and who have served in senior management level positions.   Ideal candidates will have a diversity of shipboard experiences and be interested in future maritime employment.

Grant recipients will receive*:
Complimentary attendance at the 2014 Tall Ships America Conference, including the pre-conference engineering workshop and the SafetyUnder Sail forum
Conference hotel room (shared)
*Individuals are responsible for their own transportation costs.

Applicant Criteria*:
~Current member of Tall Ships America
~Hold at minimum a 100ton Near Coastal Master’s license (preference will be given to those with a minimum 500ton Ocean Mate/Master’s license or higher)
Or
~Hold at minimum a Designated Duty Engineer’s license
~At least two years of service as Chief Mate, Engineer (aboard vessels where required) or Master
*Preference will be given to those that have not previously attended the Conference

Application Process:
Applicants must submit the following materials:
~Cover letter detailing applicant’s interest in attending the Conference and their professional goals
~Résumé
~Letter of recommendation from a Tall Ships America Member Organization
~3 reference contacts

Once an application has been received, it will be reviewed by the USMMA Sailing Foundation and the applicant will be contacted for a telephone interview.

Notification of awards will be made no later than December 4th, 2013
